Minority Calls For Withdrawal Of Road Traffic Regulations

Written by Sarah Boye

The NDC Minority Caucus is calling on the Minister of Transport to withdraw the proposed amendments to the Road Traffic Regulations to prevent them from becoming law in the next 21 sitting days.

In a statement, the minority recognised that while the regulations aim to modernise vehicle registration and licensing, they strongly oppose provisions that allow certain public officials to use sirens and exceed speed limits without consequences.

Further, the caucus has instructed its committee members to actively oppose the amendment and directed all 137 NDC Members of Parliament to vote against the legislative instrument when it comes to the floor.

The Minority called on the government to prioritise urgent issues affecting Ghanaians, such as rising living costs, food inflation, unemployment, high fuel prices, the depreciation of the Cedi, and a heavy tax burden that drives businesses to relocate to neighbouring countries.
