Written by Sarah Boye

The Ministry of Interior has announced that Monday, August 5, 2024, will be an additional public holiday due to Founders’ Day falling on Sunday, August 4, 2024.

According to a Facebook post by the ministry, the President issued this declaration through an Executive Instrument (E.I.) under Section 2 of the Public Holidays and Commemorative Days Act (Act 601), extending the observance of Founders’ Day.

It stated :

“This national holiday honours key figures in Ghana’s independence struggle, including the “Big Six.” Originally named “Founder’s Day”, the holiday honored Osagyefo Dr Kwame Nkrumah’s achievements.

The President’s decision ensures that all citizens can commemorate the day properly on the following Monday. The public should observe the extended holiday nationwide.”
