The Ministry of Fisheries and Aquaculture Development (MoFAD) has lifted the ban on fishing nationwide in a ceremony at Akplabanya Beach in the Greater Accra Region.
During the ceremony,the fisheries Minister Mavis Hawa Koomson declared the end of the ban and urged all stakeholders to engage in conserving Ghana’s marine resources and artisanal fishermen can now resume their activities starting Thursday, August 1.
Hawa koomson stated:
“The closed fishing season aimed to recover over-exploited fish stocks, restore depleted species, and reduce fishing pressure.”
Additionally, she urged the residents of Upper Manya in Ada West to renew their commitment to marine conservation and expressed hopes for a season of abundant catches and growth in the fisheries and aquaculture sector.
This decision follows a month-long closure designed to replenish declining fish stocks.
