The National Election Security Task Force has deployed military personnel to support the police in securing collation centres for the ongoing electoral process in remaining constituencies.
In a press briefing on Friday, December 20, Director of Public Affairs for the Ghana Police Service and spokesperson for the task force, ACP Grace Ansah-Akrofi, emphasised the importance of maintaining order at the centres.
“The Task Force has assured the Electoral Commission of its readiness to provide security for the outstanding collation.
The Commission mentioned to us that only recognise individuals will have access to the centres, so joint police and military personnel will be position for the exercise.
We caution that non-accredited persons will be denied entry and urge political parties not to encourage supporters to gather at the centres and disrupt the process,” ACP Ansah-Akrofi said.
She further urged political leaders to refrain from inciting their supporters, warning that such actions could escalate tensions and undermine the integrity of the coalition process.
Additionally, ACP Ansah-Akrofi reassured the public that the combined police and military presence would ensure a secure environment for the EC to complete the collation without disruptions.
This announcement follows criticisms from the Electoral Commission, which accused the task force of failing to provide sufficient security during earlier stages of the collation, leading to its suspension.
