Mike Ocquaye Jnr. To Contest Dome-Kwabenya Parliamentary Seat Again

Written by Louis

When nominations for the Dome-Kwabenya parliamentary seat opened, Mike Ocquaye Junior, the Chief Executive Officer of the Ghana Free Zones Authority, declared his intention to run again.

He revealed this in an exclusive interview that aired Tuesday morning on Peace FM’s “Kokrokoo” program with Kwami Sefa Kayi.

“I want to inform the people of Dome-Kwabenya through your medium that as soon as there is an opening for picking up forms and filing nominations, I, Mike Ocquaye Jnr., will stand to represent the people of Dome-Kwabenya,” he stated to Kwami Sefa Kayi.

In the 2020 primaries, incumbent lawyer Sarah Adwoa Safo—who was also the deputy Majority Leader in Parliament—bested Ghana’s High Commissioner to India, attorney Mike Ocquaye Jr.

A total of 496 votes were cast for the Dome-Kwabenya MP, while 488 votes were cast for attorney Mike Ocquaye Jr.

The 174 seats that the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) represents in parliament will hold their parliamentary primaries on January 20, 2024, the party stated.

“The nomination period will begin on December 20, 2023, and end on December 22, 2023. A portion of the announcement released by the party’s general secretary, Justin Frimpong Koduah, stated, “The Party shall soon issue detailed guidelines to govern the conduct of the primaries in these constituencies.”

The party has said that on December 2, 2023, it will hold the party’s parliamentary primaries for constituencies (orphan constituencies) that are not represented in parliament.
