“Media Access To Collation Centres Reversed”-EC

Written by Sarah Boye

The Electoral Commission (EC) has reversed its earlier decision to limit media access to constituency and regional collation centres.

In a statement on Monday, December 2, the EC announced that journalists with photo accreditation for polling station coverage can now use the same credentials to access constituency and regional collation centres.

“Starting Saturday, December 7, 2024, media personnel with EC-issued photo accreditation cards can access constituency and regional collation centres,” the statement said.

Further, the EC emphasised its commitment to transparency and accountability, highlighting that the updated accreditation policy aims to improve media access and flexibility during the election process.

“This revised system reflects the EC’s dedication to maintaining transparency and ensuring media professionals have the access they need to effectively cover the electoral process. The EC will soon announce arrangements for media access to the National Collation Centre.”

This decision followed internal discussions and consultations with key media stakeholders.
