Onoh Chukwuma, a Facebook user, is said to have killed himself on Tuesday by swallowing a pesticide after losing N2.5 million to gambling. He commented on his Facebook wall that this was his last day on Earth and that he would be seeing his maker.
In his post, he expressed gratitude to a few people, stating, “Today is my last day on earth! I am about to meet my creator. Ikukuoma Abia, Kelvin Jombo Onumah, Ekwueme Ohafia, Chima Anyaso, and my pals are all appreciated. I’m thinking of you all.
Friends heard of Onoh’s agony and hurried him to Madonna Hospital in Umuahia. Despite the medical professionals’ best efforts, he did not make it through.
Onoh was said to have lost N2.5 million in bets and was unable to handle the pressure and embarrassment from the people he had borrowed money from. When a friend learned of his passing, she described her sadness and the doctors’ inability to bring him back to life.
A different Facebook user questioned the deceased’s choice, pointing out that Onoh had N1 million and borrowed N1.5 million to place a wager that was lost, which ultimately led to his terrible demise as a result of humiliation from creditors.
Onoh Chukwuma wrote to Facebook user Ibeako Esther Chisom. Richard, I’m devastated. I saw the nurses and doctors pressuring you to try to pull through, but they were all unsuccessful, and you stopped when the doctor said that you were dead in front of me and your friends.
“Onoh Chukwuma Richard, you really cut down on the plans God has for you by taking your life by yourself. Sleep on. I am heartbroken.”
Another user, Obika James Abuchi, wrote, “U had 1 million and borrowed 1.5 million to play bet; it failed because of the shame from debtors you took your life? Onoh, who taught you this? ”
Friends have since taken to his Facebook page to send condolences.
