The Minister-designate for Education, Haruna Iddrisu, has reaffirmed President Mahama’s commitment to improving Ghana’s education system.

Speaking about the future of education and the Free Senior High School (Free SHS) policy, Iddrisu confirmed that the government plans to introduce free tertiary education.

Iddrisu emphasised that President Mahama will not abolish the Free SHS program. He has consistently pledged to expand it, a promise he reiterated during his campaign.

Additionally, Iddrisu highlighted that the President is steadfast to upholding the principles outlined in Articles 25 and 38 of the 1992 Constitution, which define the goals of Ghana’s educational policy.

Addressing rumours about the cancellation of the program, Iddrisu emphasised the government’s focus on making the policy more sustainable and extending its benefits to reach more students across the country.

“To support these objectives, the government will organise a stakeholder forum to gather diverse perspectives and recommendations for enhancing the education sector.”
