Flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, has reaffirmed the party’s commitment to transforming Ghana’s creative industry by upgrading.
Addressing creatives in Kumasi on Tuesday, November, Mahama criticised the poor state of the National Theatre in Accra and outlined plans to upgrade it with state-of-the-art equipment, turning it into a modern creative hub for artists across the country.
He promised to build a new national theatre in the city to support content creators if the NDC wins the next election. He stressed that this pledge, first outlined in the party’s 2020 manifesto, remains a top priority for the NDC.
“The National Theatre, built with Chinese support during Rawlings’s era, has not seen any major rehabilitation,”The stage is in poor condition, the curtains are unusable, and several parts of the building need urgent repairs. We must restore this facility to serve the creative industry effectively.” Mahama said.
Further, Mahama reaffirmed the NDC’s pledge to construct Ghana’s second national theatre in Kumasi, vowing that an NDC administration would deliver on this promise.
