Mahama Pledges To End Forest Reserve Mining If Elected

The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has pledged to end mining in forest reserves if elected president during a campaign in the central region.

Addressing the chiefs and elders , Mahama highlighted the historical significance of forests. He pointed that some trees have stood for 700 hence warns that deforestation leads to desertification and environmental degradation.

Additionally, he assured that his government will prioritise environmental preservation over the exploitation of forest reserves for gold.

Thus, stresses the critical need to protect Ghana’s forests and that the immediate benefits of gold mining are not worth the long-term environmental costs.
