The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has pledged to establish public universities in Ghana’s newly created regions if his party wins the 2024 elections.
Addressing chiefs and supporters at Nkatieso in the Juaboso Constituency of the Western North Region on November 14, he stressed the importance of equal access to higher education across the country.
Mahama asserted that every region in Ghana must have at least one public university to bridge educational disparities. He highlighted the NDC’s commitment to this goal, referencing achievements under his previous administration, such as the establishment of the University of Allied Health Sciences in the Volta Region and the University of Environment and Sustainable Development in the Eastern Region.
Further, He also thanked traditional leaders for reserving lands for tertiary institutions and assured them that an NDC government would use these lands to develop new universities and bring higher education closer to their communities.
