Mahama Calls For Concrete Actions To Uphold 2024 Peace Pact

The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama has urged stakeholders to back their commitments in the Peace Pact for the 2024 general elections with concrete actions.

Speaking at the signing ceremony in Accra on November 28, 2024, Mahama warned that mistrust and insincerity could derail efforts to ensure peaceful elections. He criticised past incidents, including the 2020 general elections and the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election, which he said raised doubts about the sincerity of peace commitments.

“It is important to pledge peace and express noble intentions, but these will mean nothing if mistrust and insincerity persist. Mistrust grows when actions contradict words, especially through gaslighting by those in authority,” Mahama stated.

Further, he stressed that the Peace Pact would remain ineffective without decisive steps from stakeholders and the government to guarantee peace. “Events during the last election and the Ayawaso West Wuogon by-election cast serious doubt on the genuineness of some of today’s commitments,” he added.

Additionally, Mahama called on all parties to honour their promises through actions, emphasising that genuine efforts are vital to protecting Ghana’s image as a peaceful democratic nation.
