Popular Kumawood actor Lil-Win has approached actress Martha Ankomah for an out-of-court settlement in the GH₵5 million defamation suit, according to the High Court in Accra.
Reports indicate that the court scheduled Justice Forson Agyapong Baah to hear the case on July 31, 2024.
However, counsel for the plaintiff, Nii Apatu Plange, stated,
“There has been some development.” “We are to start the trial today, but unfortunately, some development has come up, and I pray that my client and I approach the bench.”
After approaching the bench with his client, Mr Plange stated that the defendant had made overtures for a settlement.
Consequently, Justice Forson Agyapong Baah acknowledged this before adjourning the case, noting that the plaintiff and her lawyers had agreed to settle the matter.
Reports indicate that, while Martha Ankomah was present in court, Lil-Win was absent, and there was no legal representation for him.
BACKGROUND
In a writ of summons filed on February 14, 2024, Martha Ankomah claimed that Lil-Win’s statements harmed her reputation and the brand GTP.
She insisted that Lil-Win falsely accused her of showing disdain towards Kumawood actors by refusing to collaborate with them due to their perceived lack of quality storylines.
Furthermore, Martha Ankomah argued in the writ that Lil-Win’s published words were defamatory.
Thus, demanding GHc 5 million in damages for the defamatory statements,Compensatory damages for the harm to her reputation, aggravated damages for the reckless and malicious publication of the defamatory words, an order directing Lil-Win to publish an apology and retraction with the same prominence and an injunction restraining Lil-Win from further publishing defamatory words about her.
Reports indicate that the court has adjourned the case to August 15, 2024, to finalize the settlement and adopt the agreed terms as a consent judgment.
