Legislation Unveiled To Expedite Removal Of Unauthorized Migrants

European Commission President Ursula von der Leyen has unveiled new legislation aimed at facilitating the removal of migrants who do not have the right to remain in the European Union.

In a letter to member states, she emphasis that the EU’s migration policy can only be sustainable if those who do not have the right to stay in the EU are effectively send back.

Further, she pointed out that only about 20% of third-country nationals ordered to leave have actually done so.

“The proposed law will clarify the responsibilities of returnees and streamline the return process. Draughting this legislation will be a top priority for the new migration commissioner, expected to take office at the end of the year.”

Moreover, she explain that more than 1 million people have been dislodge in recent weeks, indicating a “clear potential for further international displacement.

Additionally,Ursula urged EU leaders to prioritise contingency planning.

“Migration is envisage to be a major topic at the upcoming summit, particularly following Poland’s announcement to temporarily suspend the right to asylum.”

Moreover, Von der Leyen stressed the importance of a strong and coordinated European response to counter actions, warning against allowing Russia and Belarus to exploit the EU’s values.
