Nhyiraba Kojo, a well-known hiplife musician, has been detained in the Sekondi Prisons for five days already after being sentenced to 30 days in prison by the Sekondi Commercial Court.
In a dispute brought by four Fijai residents regarding noise from the musician’s nightclub, the musician received a contempt of court term.
According to his attorney Philip Fiifi Buckman, his client is having trouble cleansing himself.
In an interview with Citi News, Nhyiraba Kojo’s attorney, Philip Fiifi Buckman, said that even before he was imprisoned, Kojo had previously complied with the court’s order to install soundproofing at his NK City nightclub.
He further explained that due to delays caused by the EPA and the Environmental Health Office of the Sekondi-Takoradi Metropolis, his client was unable to submit a report of completion to the court in a timely manner.
“He complied with the court’s requests with regard to the substantive subject, but because he was unable to reach the deadline, the court declared him in contempt. Because of government institution bureaucracy, it has become challenging.
After Nhyiraba Kojo disobeyed the court’s interlocutory injunction order requiring him to stop the noise at the nightclub, ensure soundproof installation at the NK City Nightclub, and submit a report to the court, the court, presided over by Justice Sedina Agbemava, sentenced him to imprisonment.
Edmund Sampana Dienorng, Nicholas Imbeah, and Samuel Kofi Dzukey are the petitioners.
