Lawsuit Challenges Appointment Of COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno

Written by Sarah Boye

Emmanuel Felix Mantey has challenged the appointment of COP Christian Tetteh Yohuno as Deputy Inspector-General of Police by filing a lawsuit.

According to reports, Mr Mantey, who filed his suit at the High Court on August 1, seeks an order to prevent COP Yohuno from assuming the role of Deputy Inspector-General of Police in charge of Operations.

Further, he requests that the court restrain the Attorney General and the Police Council from advancing Yohuno’s appointment.

Mr Mantey asks for a judicial review that includes: 1) an order barring COP Yohuno from acting in the role, and 2) an order halting the respondents from furthering his appointment.

Additionally, private legal practitioner Justice Abdulai filed a similar lawsuit on July 30 against the Attorney General and the Police Council regarding the same appointment.

On July 17, 2024, President Nana Addo Dankwa Akufo-Addo appointed COP Yohuno to the role, based on the Police Council’s recommendation highlighting his exceptional qualifications and dedication.
