Lasmid Expresses Desire to Remain with Highly Spiritual Music, But He Influenced by Young Industry Players -Kaywa

Chief Executive Officer of Highly Spiritual Music, Kaywa, recently spoke out about the departure of artist Lasmid from his record label. In an interview on Joy Prime, the renowned sound producer, whose real name is David Kojo Kyei, revealed that Lasmid did not have a contract with the label from the beginning. Instead, Lasmid was assigned to Kaywa by the organizers of the MTN Hitmaker competition as part of his prize package after winning Season 8 of the music contest in 2019.

Kaywa disclosed that MTN gave him Lasmid for one year in exchange for GHS 40,000. This investment covered the production of two songs, two music videos, and the promotion of these works. After the one-year period, Lasmid’s time with the label came to an end, leaving both parties disheartened.

Kaywa expressed his desire to continue working with Lasmid, but some individuals in the industry, particularly young artists, felt that Kaywa’s focus was still on Lasmid, even though he was no longer officially part of the label. Kaywa narrated how he personally called Lasmid, along with some people, to discuss the situation and propose a plan. They agreed to push Lasmid’s career further until they had a hit song, at which point they would consider officially signing him to the label. This plan took several years to materialize.

It was only after Lasmid’s fourth song, “Friday Night,” became a hit that they started making significant progress. However, following the success of his second hit, “Running,” Lasmid decided to part ways with Kaywa. The narrative seemed to change as Lasmid’s popularity grew, likely influenced by individuals within their circle.

Kaywa emphasized the substantial investment made in Lasmid’s career and the previous discussions they had about their future plans. Despite the turn of events, he wished Lasmid well in his future endeavors.
