Kwesi Appiah Clarifies Asante Kotoko Head Of Sporting Affairs Role

Sudan National Team Coach Kwesi Appiah has clarified his appointment as Asante Kotoko’s Head of Sporting Affairs.

In an interview on Asempa FM, Appiah explained he initially accepted the technical director role but soon realised his commitments with Sudan made it difficult to perform the duties effectively, hence prompting the decision to bring in Jabir, a coach with experience at the national level.

“We wanted Prosper Narteh Ogum to focus solely on coaching, so we appointed Malik Jabir to assist. I was the technical director, but with my frequent travels, we needed someone who could support the coach right away,” Appiah said.

After the dissolution of Dr. Kwame Kyei’s board and Nana Yaw Amponsah’s management team, Asante Kotoko’s life patron, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, announced an Interim Management Committee (IMC) and appointed Appiah as the initial technical director.

However, in November, the club confirmed Malik Jabir had taken over the role. Prosper Narteh Ogum, formerly part of the IMC, now focuses solely on his role as head coach.

Asante Kotoko is gearing up for a crucial Matchday 13 clash with archrivals Hearts of Oak at the Baba Yara Stadium in the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League.
