The presidential candidate for the Movement for Change Alan Kyerematen, has openly criticised former President John Agyekum Kufuor for endorsing Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, ahead of the 2024 general elections.
In an interview, Kyerematen argued that Kufuor’s endorsement undermines the neutrality expected of a statesman. According to him, Kufuor’s actions damaged his reputation and subjected him to public criticism and insults.
“Kufuor is my uncle and an elder, so I prefer not to criticise him harshly in public. But his actions have left a major blot on his political legacy. Have you noticed the insults and derogatory comments he is facing now? He is highly respected in Ghana, so why engage in partisan politics of this nature? His actions are troubling, and he needs to stop. He knows exactly what he is doing.” Kyerematen Stated
Kyerematen’s remarks followed Kufuor’s media engagement, where the former president urged Ghanaians to support Dr Bawumia in the December polls.
Further, Kufuor described Bawumia as the ideal leader for the country and praised his economic expertise. Thus, expressed confidence that Bawumia could transform Ghana’s economy with divine guidance.
