Kuami Eugene, a new signing to Lynx Entertainment, said that he was responsible for around 80% of Mr. Drew’s smash song “Case.”
According to the “Rockstar,” he wrote the hook and a portion of the second stanza.
I contributed to the second stanza and the hook of “Mr. Drew’s song, Case.” About 80% of that tune was my own. In fact, he heard it and sang it back before he arrived to record the song, so everything was already finished. As a result, Kuami Eugene said in an interview with Naana Donkor Arthur, “I also write for other musicians.
It pains him to use this platform to criticise Mr. Drew, according to Kuami Eugene, even if he appears to have written one of the most popular songs in Ghana right now.
It’s awful that I have to utilise this channel to urge Mr. Drew to take the necessary action because the music is doing well. That hook really works. Because I composed the song with the intention of wishing me well, even if I had performed it alone, it would have been a smash, he lamented.
Kuami Eugene also stated his support for the idea of talents in the entertainment sector needing to be recognised.
He is a sibling. I hope we could offer respect and credit where credit is due in the industry so that we could all advance personally, he said.
All I ever heard from him, he said, was “Bro, the song, make we drop” and that was back when I was living in America. The second person who was present when we recorded the song texted me later to let me know Drew had dropped the song. At the time he texted to ask if we should drop the song, I was asleep due to the time difference and when I woke up, he hadn’t notified my management or anything. I texted Drew with a question, and he put me on read.
Upon its debut, Mr. Drew’s song “Case” received a lot of attention. Some music fans theorised that it was written as a dig at Kaywa, a Ghanaian music producer and the head of the Highly Spiritual record label, who had previously collaborated with Mr. Drew.
The singer made it clear that he did not write the song for his former boss, though, in an interview with Naa Ashorkor and Cookie Tee on the New Day Show on TV3.
He claims that he co-wrote the song “Case” with his fellow singer Kuami Eugene about three years ago and that it was meant to be published before his song “Later,” which featured Kelvyn Boy.
“Oh no, I don’t think I’d be the kind of person to write a song for just one person. Funny thing is, the song is three years old. I did write it three years ago, yes. ‘Later’ with Kelvyn Boy was originally going to be replaced by ‘This Song,’ which I actually created with Kuami Eugene. This is not the genuine beat; it is a highlife tune that I was searching for to release as I was going through my song ideas,” he said.
