Chairperson of the Defence Council, Aden Bare Duale has authorised the deployment of Kenyan Defence Forces to reinforce the National Police Service’s efforts in quelling violent demonstrations.
The decision follows a mounting wave of protests, initially driven by social media grievances but now characterised by widespread turmoil.
Demonstrators have specifically targeted key governmental sites such as the governor’s office, city hall, and the national parliament, resulting in significant fires and disruptions.
This deployment is based on Article 241(3) of the Constitution of Kenya, which empowers the military to assist civil authorities in maintaining public order during emergencies.
