Kenyan President William Ruto has dismissed all Cabinet ministers with a promise to form a new and efficient government.
In a televised address, Ruto announced that ministries would temporarily be managed by their permanent secretaries.
The dissolution of his cabinet does not affect the deputy president. He stated
“The move came after reflection, listening to Kenyans, and a holistic appraisal of my cabinet. I will now consult widely in order to set up a broad-based government.”
Ruto explained that he made this decision after listening to public concerns and plans to form a broad-based government following consultations.
This decision follows three weeks of unrest in Kenya, with protesters storming parliament on June 25 after the passage of a finance bill that increased taxes.
The protests, which have resulted in over 30 deaths, have evolved into demands for the president’s resignation.
