The flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Dramani Mahama, has sharply criticized the government’s District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP).
During his campaign tour at the Bono Regional House of Chiefs, Mahama argued that the government rushed the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) and designed it primarily for political gain, calling it a poorly conceived initiative.
He highlighted issues such as the mismanagement of equipment transportation and the lack of skilled operators, which have led to some machinery remaining unused.
Background:
On July 31, President Akufo-Addo launched the District Road Improvement Programme (DRIP) and introduced essential equipment at Black Star Square. The DRIP aims to equip Metropolitan, Municipal, and District Assemblies (MMDAs) with the resources and tools needed for local road repairs and maintenance, supporting the government’s decentralization efforts by empowering local authorities.
This initiative is part of the government’s broader effort to enhance Ghana’s road infrastructure, decentralize development, and improve citizens’ quality of life.
