John Mahama Pledges Increased Public Security Recruitment

Written by Sarah Boye

The National Democratic Congress (NDC) flagbearer, John Dramani Mahama, has pledged to boost the recruitment of public security personnel to implement a 24-hour economy.

In an address during his Building Ghana Tour at the Beneba Market Square in Zebilla, Upper East Region, Mahama emphasised the need for a fair and transparent recruitment process and promised to distribute opportunities equitably across all regions under his leadership.

He argued that a successful 24-hour economy requires strong security measures. Thus, it pointed out that Ghana’s current police force of nearly 30,000 officers falls short for a population of almost 30 million.

To address this, he plans to significantly increase the number of personnel in the police, security, and military services. He assured young Ghanaians that they would have ample and fair opportunities to join the security services, contrasting this with the alleged secretive practices of the NPP.

He stated,

“When we come into power, we will provide incentives for Ghanaian businesses to extend their operating hours, creating more jobs for Ghanaian youth.
A 24-hour economy needs enhanced security and safety. With about 30,000 police officers for nearly 30 million people, we must expand our police, security, and military forces.”
