The National Democratic Congress (NDC) parliamentary candidate for Ayawaso West Wuogon, John Dumelo, has filed a formal criminal complaint against Lydia Seyram Alhassan, the constituency’s incumbent Member of Parliament.
In a Facebook post on Tuesday, December 3, Dumelo announced that his team has submitted the complaint to the Office of the Special Prosecutor (OSP), accusing Alhassan of violating criminal and electoral laws.
“The complaint includes video evidence of various actions by Ms. Lydia Seyram Alhassan that we believe breach our criminal and electoral laws.We call on the OSP to take immediate action to prevent further misconduct and hold Alhassan and her associates accountable.” Dumelo wrote.
The allegations stem from claims that Ms Lydia Alhassan distributed food to voters during the special voting exercise on December 2 at the Legon Police Station polling center. Videos circulating online show her handing food packages to voters in line, sparking debates about voter influence and electoral integrity.
However, she denied any wrongdoing, claiming her actions stemmed from compassion and focused solely on assisting voters in need.
