Jay-Z took to Instagram lately to promote The Book of Clarence, a new film he co-produced with James Lassiter and Tendo Nagenda. For the past two years, the rapper has been absent from the social networking platform.
Jay-Z reactivated his Instagram feed on Tuesday (Aug. 29) and shared a trailer for director Jeymes Samuel’s upcoming biblical epic film, The Book of Clarence, which can be viewed below. In the description of the post, how also provided his numerous followers a release date for the film.
“‘The Book of Clarence,'” Jay-Z wrote in the post’s post. “January 20, 2024.”
The trailer for the biblical epic film, set in Jerusalem in 33AD, shows Clarence, portrayed by LaKeith Stanfield, embarking on a journey to become one of the Messiah’s apostles. Jeymes Samuel, who previously collaborated with Jay-Z in their respective roles for Netflix’s The Harder They Fall, wrote and directed the film.
On August 28, Vanity Fair published an exclusive interview with Jay-Z and Jeymes in which they discuss The Book of Clarence. During one of their conversations, the wealthy rapper-entrepreneur expresses anxiety about people focusing on the religious side of the film rather than the tale.
“My fear is that people don’t allow that arc to take place and are immediately judging,” Jay-Z stated.
The Book of Clarence will be released in theaters on January 12, 2024.
