The Second Deputy Speaker of Parliament, Andrew Asiamah Amoako, has summoned Interior Minister Henry Quartey to appear before the House on Wednesday, June 26, 2024.
This summons comes in response to the murders of two private security men at their duty posts in separate attacks at the Wa East office of the Ghana Education Service and the Wa Model Junior High School.
Member of Parliament Yusif Sulemana and Dr. Rashid Pelpuo, representing Bole-Bamboi and Wa Central, respectively, expressed frustration over the lack of progress in investigations and called for more action to address the situation.
Mr Sulemana pointed out,
“The Interior Minister recently sent personnel to Bole to help curb this situation, but more needs to be done. Watchmen are being targeted, and within a short period, three people have been killed.”
Dr Pelpuo added,
“Last year, nearly nine people were killed in Wa Central in similar attacks. The police have indicated ongoing investigations, but new killings have occurred before we even received results from the previous investigations. The situation in Bole and Wa requires an urgent and thorough investigation. We are calling on the police to be more effective in their efforts.”
They urged the Interior Minister to provide a detailed briefing on the situation and the measures being taken to ensure the safety of private security officers and the general public.
