Interior Minister Henry Quartey pledged to enforce strict measures against individuals inciting violence as the country approaches the December elections.
Speaking at the commissioning of a Police shop on Wednesday, July 17 at the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) headquarters, Henry Quartey emphasized that authorities will prosecute anyone making threatening statements on social media related to the elections under the False Publication Act, which seeks to curb incendiary remarks that could disrupt the electoral process.
“Very soon, anybody who makes a threatening statement to incite violence before, during, and after the elections, we will make sure the law deals with the person and a court of competent jurisdiction will work,” Mr. Quartey asserted.
This initiative responds to the frequent occurrence of individuals making threatening statements on social media.
Hon Henry Quartey advocated for a violence-free election and cautioned the public to refrain from inciting violence, allowing eligible voters to exercise their franchise without fear. He also pledged to fulfill his mandate of sustaining peace in the country.
