Strongman Burner, a Ghanaian rapper who has been nominated for Best Rapper of the Year at the VGMAs for the past four years, has expressed his regret at not having yet received the coveted honor.
He claims that despite his extraordinary abilities, the award has consistently escaped him, prompting him to wonder what else he can do to win the coveted honor.
Strongman made a splash in the music industry with his distinctive style and lyrical prowess, attracting listeners with his seamless ability to weave words. His early songs were well received and helped him become a well-known rapper in Ghana. The music business took note, and it didn’t take long for his name to become a byword for poetic genius.
The rapper claimed in an interview with TV3’s New Day that he had tried everything to win a VGMA but still hadn’t received one, despite being the only person in Ghana to have received four consecutive Best Rapper nominations.
“Four consecutive nominations is not an easy task, I am the only one on this soil, the only one in Ghana to have four years of four Best Rapper nominations” he said.
Right now, the award is given based on the decision of the board so it is not about the fans anymore, and honestly, I don’t really care that much, it is not taking anything away from me. Awards don’t affect my music; I drop and I still see the results.
Awards give an artist three things, it gives you a competitive advantage over your colleagues, it makes you feel good about yourself and it makes you feel like your sweat has been rewarded for all your emotions”. He added.
