The Institute of Economic Affairs (IEA) will hold debates for selected presidential candidates and their running mates in October and November, preparing for the December 7 elections.
According to the Former chief justice Sophia Akuffo, the debates will evaluate the candidates’ credibility and competence, helping voters make informed decisions. Thus, will reveal candidates’ visions and abilities to tackle national challenges.
Additionally, Director of Research at the IEA,Dr John Kwakye reported that , although the National Democratic Congress (NDC) initially indicated it would not participate, there are ongoing efforts to involve them.Further, Mr Kwakye stressed that any perceived favouritism towards the NPP was purely coincidental and expressed hope that the NDC will join.
According to report,the debates will occur in Kumasi and Accra in October and November, with individual candidate sessions scheduled for September.
Sources indicate that since 2000, the IEA has organised these debates to engage candidates with the public. This year’s debates will address key issues such as the economy, governance, infrastructure, education, health, and energy.
