The flag-bearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC), John Mahama, announced on Facebook that he will offer teachers a 20% salary incentive if they agree to teach in rural schools.
He stated that this initiative aims to motivate more teachers to accept postings to deprived communities.
Mahama added that he plans to incorporate accommodation into the design of new schools at the basic and secondary levels.
This will ensure that teachers don’t have to live in adjoining towns and struggle with transportation when posted to a rural school.
Seeking re-election, Mahama, who previously served as President from June 2012 to January 6, 2017, faces his main contender, Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia of the New Patriotic Party (NPP).
Both candidates have been actively campaigning across the country and engaging with voters.
