Ghanaian musician D-Black says he would dissolve music unions like MUSIGA, GHAMRO, and COSGA if appointed Tourism Minister, criticizing their failure to fulfill their roles effectively.
In an interview, D-Black argued that these organisations are not meeting the needs of Ghanaian musicians and producers, and a complete restructuring is necessary.
“We lack an accountable royalty collection society, so I would shut down MUSIGA, GHAMRO, and COSGA and establish a new body to manage their duties, as the current system isn’t functioning as it should,” he explained.
He further criticised MUSIGA, highlighting that despite numerous leadership changes, the union has yet to make a significant impact on the industry. That is , the importance of education and training within the music sector to ensure its long-term success.
“I would prioritise educating industry professionals, particularly managers, on the evolving dynamics of the music business. Many artists rely on trusted friends as managers, but proper training is essential to making the industry more viable,” he concluded.
