In an interview, Ghanaian award-winning songstress Mzbel explained why she chose not to travel abroad for childbirth to secure her children’s future.
According to Mzbel, she feels embarrassed to give birth abroad merely to acquire foreign passports for her children.
Mzbel emphasised that, she wants to instill in her children the idea of succeeding at home rather than relying on foreign lands.
“During my pregnancy, people asked why I didn’t give birth abroad, but I felt shy to do so. Having Ghanaian blood, why would I stay abroad to give birth just for some opportunities?
I won’t do it because I don’t want my children to believe they must travel abroad to succeed. It’s a common practice, but I’m embarrassed by it,” she added.
Mzbel’s remarks come amid a recent debate sparked by a Ghanaian based in the Netherlands, who claimed that a Dutch passport is worth more than a PhD from the University of Ghana.
