The minister-designate for trade, agribusiness, and industry, Elizabeth Ofosu-Adjare, has pledged to revitalise the Komenda Sugar Factory to benefit Ghanaians.
During her appearance before the Appointments Committee of Parliament, the Techiman North MP explained that the factory remains inactive due to a shortage of raw materials.
She pointed out that previous funds allocated to resolve these issues, but she the need for a thorough assessment of the factory’s condition.
“I have been told that the Komenda Sugar Factory is not operational, and a major challenge is the lack of raw materials and missing parts.
Further, Madam Ofosu-Adjare stressed the need for a detailed evaluation before taking further steps. “We must assess the overall condition of the factory, and I will ensure we understand its true state,” she stated.
Additionally, she also highlighted that Ghana spends approximately $500 million annually on sugar imports. She sees
“Once I take office, I will work with the ministry to assess the factory’s condition and ensure Ghana benefits from this important project. The factory’s revival is a crucial move to reduce this dependency and boost local production.”she assured.
