In a recent interview with Andy Dosty on Daybreak Hitz, rising music star Lasmid cleared the air about the rumors surrounding his acceptance speech at the Vodafone Ghana Music Awards (VGMA). Contrary to claims made by his former manager, Kaywa, Lasmid stated that he was not forced to give a glowing tribute to his former boss on the night of the awards ceremony.
As the reigning New Artiste of the Year, Lasmid was anticipating a win and had even prepared an acceptance speech. However, nerves got the better of him when he was eventually declared the winner. He admitted to being a shy person and found it challenging to articulate his thoughts effectively. “I prepared a speech but because I am a very shy person, I did not know how to go about it. I didn’t know how to even say what I wrote, and I was not ready to go and read,” Lasmid revealed during the interview.
A few weeks prior, Kaywa had disclosed in an interview with Andy Dosty that Lasmid was prompted to thank him for his contributions to his success under the Highly Spiritual Music record label. However, Lasmid refuted these claims, asserting that he spoke from the heart during his acceptance speech. “Nobody told me nothing. I just came and said whatever was going through my head. Nobody told me anything. I thanked him from my heart,” he explained.
Lasmid did confirm that he saw and spoke to his former boss backstage at the event. While he acknowledged being independent now, he chose not to delve into the circumstances surrounding his exit from the record label, stating that these were private matters he preferred not to discuss publicly. “Now I am independent. Kaywa is my Godfather, and I cannot say what happened between us on the radio. I feel like we all have to move on with our work,” Lasmid expressed during the interview.
Lasmid’s departure from Highly Spiritual Music adds his name to the list of artists who have exited the record label, including Kurl Songx, Rachelle Blue, Krymi, Mr Drew, Yaw Berk, and King Maga. As an independent artist, Lasmid is currently focused on promoting his latest single ‘Bad Boy’ and is eager to make strides in his music career.
