President-elect John Dramani Mahama has assured Ghanaians that his administration will not misuse the National Democratic Congress’ (NDC) commanding parliamentary majority.
Speaking during a courtesy visit by the National Chief Imam, Mr Mahama promised to work with the opposition New Patriotic Party (NPP) and adhere to democratic principles.
“We will not abuse our significant majority in Parliament,Despite securing more than two-thirds of the seats, we will govern through consensus and consult the NPP at every step rather than imposing decisions unilaterally.” he stated.
He stressed the importance of collective efforts in national development. “No single party can transform Ghana alone. Progress requires the cooperation of everyone, including religious leaders, to move this country forward,” he said.
Further, Mr. Mahama also reaffirmed his commitment to inclusivity and transparency. He assured the chief imam and other leaders of his openness to advice, saying,
“My doors remain open. I will continue to consult you and value your counsel. I ask for your prayers as we work together to build a better Ghana.”
Dismissing the “supreme leader” title some have attributed to him after the NDC’s decisive victory, Mr Mahama emphasised that he would govern as a democrat committed to unity and collaboration.
