Eno Barony, whose real name is Ruth Eno Adjoa Amankwah Nyame Adom, was born in Tema, Accra. Throughout her life, she has been accustomed to being labeled and categorized. In school, she was often referred to as “That Ashaiman Girl,” and during her time in tertiary education in Kumasi, she was known as “That Tema Girl.” When she started pursuing rap, people labeled her as a “Kumasi Girl.” These labels and stereotypes affected her self-esteem, especially hurtful was the label of being “fat.” However, Eno Barony refused to let these comments define her or dictate her path.
Eno recognized her inherent worth and made a conscious decision to rise above the negativity. By doing so, she not only empowered herself but also became an inspiration to countless others who struggled with body image issues. Dropping all the negativity, she discovered that people who were more plus-sized than she was looked up to her as an icon. She received messages and videos from individuals expressing their gratitude, some even crying and saying that she made them feel beautiful.
In 2021, at the VGMA’s (Vodafone Ghana Music Awards), Eno Barony, at 31 years old, won the award for Best Rap Performance. This achievement was particularly significant as she emerged victorious over esteemed artists such as Medikal, Strongman, Joey B, and Amerado. Eno’s success serves as a testament to her talent, perseverance, and ability to break free from the limitations imposed by societal expectations and stereotypes.
