Musician Okyeame Kwame claimed that his parents were opposed to him marrying Annica because of their shared religious beliefs, but they nevertheless went through with it.
Annica worships as a Jehovah’s Witness, and his parents opposed him taking her home as a bride, according to Okyeame Kwame, his wife of almost 20 years.
The “Wo So” singer says in an interview with Angel FM that despite his parents’ opposition, they went ahead and got married since that is what they both wanted.
“My never consented to our union”. When we arrived in Nkawkaw, my wife, who was then working at a law company, said, “Okyeame, do you know that in Ghana we have three fundamental factors in marriage? We were going to perform in Kumasi, but we resided in Kumasi and were performing in Accra. We have a law, a custom, a Mohammedan law, and one more that I can’t recall.
Okyeame Kwame went on to say that although both families were in love with one another, the issue of religion prevented them from approving the union.
‘Both families loved one another, but they couldn’t get along because of religion,’ he said.
According to Okyeame Kwame, he notified his mother about the marriage a night before the ceremony because he understood that he was not going to marry the lady for his mother but for myself.”
Why would I marry a lady that she wants and not what I want because we won’t be living together? He probed.
When one of the hosts questioned him about if he wanted his parents’ blessings, he said, “No.”
How will I use her approval? God, not others, is the one who benefits us. When my mother, who will shortly depart, chooses a woman for me and then passes away, would the girl act badly towards me? “Aren’t I an idiot, he shot back.
