The National Democratic Congress parliamentary candidate for Awutu Senya East, Phillis Naa Korvoo Okunor, revealed she has acquired a firearm for her own protection against Hawa Koomson, the current Member of Parliament for the constituency.
In a recent interview with Citi FM on Wednesday, June 5, Ms. Okunor explained that during the 2020 elections, she received multiple threats from Koomson, but the police did not take any action.
Ms. Okunor highlighted that these threats occurred on four separate occasions, prompting her to take personal measures for her safety.
She stressed that she feels responsible for her own protection due to the police’s failure to address her concerns.
“There is a need for me to do that because I can best protect myself and not any other person against Hawa Koomson,” she insisted.
Reflecting on the 2019-2020 elections, Ms. Okunor recounted that Koomson pulled a gun on her four times without facing any consequences, as no arrests, interrogations, or investigations were conducted.
As a result, Ms. Okunor stated that she has had to take her security into her own hands.
