The Ghana Hydrological Authority has announced that it needs $5 billion to effectively address the country’s flood challenges.
During a session of the Assurance Committee in Parliament on Wednesday, the Authority’s CEO, Dr John Kissi, highlighted the critical importance of this $5 billion for comprehensive flood prevention and management nationwide.
He noted that in 2023, under the National Flood Control Programme, they received approximately GH¢92 million for flood mitigation efforts across the country.
“Base on the assessment of flood challenges across the nation, experts estimate that $5 billion is require to comprehensively address these issues in every city and town.” Dr John Kissi Said.
He also emphasized that the previous allocation under the National Flood Control Programme was insufficient for the necessary work.
