Four well-known members of the ruling New Patriotic Party (NPP) have had their memberships revoked: Boniface Abubakar Saddique, Nana Ohene Ntow, Hopeson Adorye, and Yaw Buaben Asamoa.
The decision was made due to their public support of a presidential candidate other than Dr. Mahamudu Bawumia, the party’s elected flagbearer, according to a press release released on Monday, November 20.
This support is cited in the statement, which is signed by General Secretary Justin Kodua Frimpong, as a violation of the party’s constitution, specifically Articles 3(5) (A)(4) and 3(9)(1).
These articles place a strong emphasis on the duty of party members to follow and publicly support decisions.
The press release emphasises that the party is aware of the four people’s actions and that they continue to be associated with the NPP in spite of their violations of the party’s constitution.
It clarifies at the end that their membership has been revoked since their activities have violated the party’s ideals.
“Hopeson Adorye, Yaw Buaben Asamoa, Nana Ohene Ntow, and Boniface Abubakar Saddique have been observed by the leadership of the New Patriotic Party (NPP) to have publicly endorsed the candidature of an individual other than the duly elected Presidential Candidate of the Party, Dr. Alhaji Mahamudu Bawumia.”
Despite their egregious violations of the Party’s Constitution, specifically Articles 3(5) (A)(4) and 3(9)(1), the men mentioned above continue to identify as NPP members.
A portion of the statement said, “To avoid any doubt, all members of the Party are obligated to ‘abide by and publicly uphold the decisions of the Party,’ as stated in Article 3(5) (A) (4) of the NPP Constitution.”
