The family of 16-year-old Suzi Adwoa Penamang, a student at Seventh Day Adventist Senior High School in Bantama, Ashanti Region, has launched an urgent appeal for financial assistance to save her from going blind.
On Friday, April 4, 2025, Suzi sustained a gunshot wound to the eye during a confrontation involving her classmate, Bernard Amoabeng. Sources say the altercation began when a dispute broke out over whether Bernard’s gun was real. In an attempt to prove its authenticity, Bernard allegedly fired the weapon, unintentionally shooting Suzi.
Doctors at Komfo Anokye Teaching Hospital initially admitted Suzi but later discharged her. Despite receiving treatment, her condition remains critical, and she continues to undergo regular medical reviews. Her family fears that without urgent medical intervention, she could lose her sight permanently.
The shooting has triggered widespread outrage, with many calling for urgent reforms to tackle student indiscipline and address the alarming presence of weapons in schools.
Sharing their ordeal, Suzi’s mother, Afia Comfort, described the devastating impact the incident has had on her daughter.
“All I ask from Ghanaians is to help save my daughter’s eye. Please, I beg you, help us fund her surgery. I have no support. MPs, President Mahama, please come to our aid. My daughter cannot sleep or eat. I plead with you—please help us,” she said.
