Ghana Premier League club Hearts of Oak won the 2024 Gbese Mantse Homowo Charity Peace Cup by defeating Heart of Lions in a dramatic penalty shootout.
Attacker Kwadwo Obeng Jr. gave Heart of Lions an early lead, putting Hearts of Oak behind 1-0 at halftime.
Just before the break, Mohammed Hussein equalised for Hearts of Oak, taking advantage of Ransford Mensah’s free shot that hit the crossbar.
Hearts of Oak then triumphed 8-7 in the penalty shootout.
The match ended 1-1 after regular time, with Hearts of Oak coming back to force the shootout.
This victory marks an important step in their preparations for the 2024/25 Ghana Premier League season, which begins on September 6.
