The presidential candidate for the All People’s Congress (APC), Hassan Ayariga unveiled his policy agenda at a meeting with the Ghana Union of Traders Associations (GUTA) on October 22, 2024.
In his address, he proposed replacing the current metering system for electricity and water with a flat rate based on property type, claiming this change will ensure fair billing.
“Under an APC government, there will be no meters for water and electricity. The metering system is ineffective and shortchanges Ghanaians,” he stated.
Further, Ayariga highlighted the need for Ghanaians to adopt a new mindset and take ownership of nation-building. He urged leaders to prioritise the needs of Ghanaian citizens and businesses while promoting transparency.
Additionally, his policy framework includes establishing a national data system, implementing a national development plan, and introducing an economic lockdown to enhance local productivity.
Thus, aims to reduce the number of taxes from 32 to 5, stabilise the Ghana cedi, raise the minimum daily wage from 18 to 300 cedis, implement a two-week salary payment cycle to reduce corruption, and create a free port policy for duty-free imports.
Through these proposals, Ayariga seeks to tackle the challenges facing Ghanaians by supporting local businesses, alleviating the tax burden, and promoting economic growth.
