Hiplife icon Guru NKZ, privately known as Maradona Adjei Yeboah, has re-entered the University of Ghana’s SRC presidential race after the SRC Electoral Commission initially disqualified him.
During vetting, Guru and his running mate, Jeffery Adu Yeboah, admitted they were not hall residents, leading to their disqualification.
In response, Guru’s legal team petitioned the Electoral Commission and the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs to reconsider the decision. They also filed an interim injunction with the Judicial Board to halt the electoral process until a hearing could take place.
The commission disqualified Guru for failing to meet the residency requirement outlined in Article 30, which mandates that candidates be campus residents and eligible for a Junior Common Room (JCR) position.
On September 15, 2024, the Appeals Board unanimously overturned the disqualification in a 7-0 ruling, reinstating Guru and his running mate in the race.
