Hiplife artist Guru NKZ, also known as Maradona Adjei Yeboah, has consequently filed a petition against the University of Ghana’s Student Representative Council (SRC) Electoral Commission after being disqualified from the SRC presidential race.
His disqualification, in particular, was due to his non-resident status, which violates Article 30 that mandates candidates to reside on campus and be eligible for a Junior Common Room (JCR) position in their hall.
In response, Guru’s legal team has subsequently petitioned the Electoral Commission and the Office of the Dean of Student Affairs, seeking a review of the disqualification.
Moreover, Guru emphasised,
“We will ensure that no student faces discrimination, whether resident or non-resident, able-bodied or with special needs, first degree or PFD, local or international, from Korle-Bu, City Campus, Distance Education, or any of the Regional Learning Centres across the country.”
In contrast to this, the legal advisor of the UGSRC has been formally notified that the SRC Judicial Board will convene to hear the case. Should the legal advisor fail to appear, the court will proceed with the case in their absence.
