Written by Sarah Boye

Finance Minister Dr Mohammed Amin Adam announced during the 2024 mid-year budget review in Parliament on July 23 that the Ghana Revenue Authority (GRA) surpassed its mid-year revenue target by 0.2%.

Dr Adam highlighted the government’s commitment to updating legislation with new revenue measures to expand the tax base and improve tax compliance.

He explained,

“In the 2024 Budget, the government revised existing laws to implement these new revenue measures. These changes aim to broaden the tax base and enhance tax compliance, creating a fairer and more efficient revenue system.”

Dr Adam credited the GRA’s success in exceeding the mid-year target to its improved compliance and enforcement strategies, even though not all measures were in place in the first half of the year.

The minister also pointed out that the GRA’s non-tax revenue (NTR) exceeded its target by 14.0% by the end of June.
