The recently instituted bet tax, according to the Ghana Revenue Authority’s Domestic Tax Revenue Division, has already brought in GH15 million in just one month. The tax collector anticipates that before the football season is over, this amount will reach GH $60 million.
Edward Gyambra, the commissioner in charge of DTRD, expressed confidence that the authority will meet its income goals by the year’s end.
The gross revenue tax and the withholding tax are the two types of taxes that we collect. Our monthly average for the GGR in the first month of implementation was GH20 million. Regarding the withholding tax, even though the betting season has just begun, we typically generated Gh15 million during the slow period. By May, we expect this to quadruple,” he said. The GRA has implemented a 10% withholding tax on gambling with the intention of earning about GH400 million to increase tax income.
