“Gov’t Is Committed To Sustainable Legal Mining”-Lands Minister

Written by Sarah Boye

The Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources has reaffirmed the government’s commitment to advancing sustainable and legal mining practices in Ghana.

Following a high-level meeting on Wednesday, the Ministry issues new guidelines to regional ministers and their security councils to strengthen the fight against illegal mining.

It stresses that responsible mining is crucial for protecting the environment and supporting affected communities.

Additionally, the ministry intensifies its efforts to combat illegal mining, or “galamsey,” by deploying anti-galamsey task forces, increasing site monitoring, and enforcing stricter regulations.

The Ministry also underscores the need to collaborate with traditional leaders, local communities, and civil society to educate the public and hold illegal miners accountable.
