The Minority spokesperson on infrastructure, Governs Agbodza clarified that they approved only $339 million for the Accra-Tema Motorway expansion project, not the reported $660 million.
After raising concerns about the project’s transparency, Governs Agbodza, compared it to other controversial initiatives like the government’s Agenda 111 and stalled housing projects.
He emphasised that
“The Parliament only approved $339 million in multi-year funding for the project. We did not approve $660 million. No one has the authority to commit the country to additional future spending on the project without Parliament’s approval.”
These comments followed President Akufo-Addo’s sod-cutting ceremony on Monday, August 26, where he announced plans to upgrade the motorway into a modern 10-lane highway.
The 27.7-kilometre project will unfold in three phases, aimed at reducing traffic congestion, enhancing safety, and making the motorway more efficient and accessible
